What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise method created by Joseph Pilates, founded on six principles: Centering, Control, Concentration, Precision, Breath, and Flow. By incorporating these principles into each exercise performed in the Pilates method, you bring your awareness deeper into each muscle of your body, creating a total mind-body connection. With an emphasis on connection through your core to the rest of your body, each exercise simultaneously challenges your core and the targeted muscle group with more intensity, to optimize your quality of movement.

Transitional Functional Pilates Program

Our Functional Pilates program is designed to help you navigate the transition from skilled PT treatment after an injury, into a regular fitness routine – whether that means a return to a previous routine you have a passion for, or finding a new fitness style that fits your daily routine. Pilates’ focus on functional strength and a stable neutral posture will help you to establish a strong foundation for the physical demands of everyday tasks and athletics alike. We can use various props such as resistance bands, weights, balls and the Pilates Ring to enhance and modify your exercises to make sure they’re challenging you appropriately to meet your goals.

How Can a Functional Pilates Program Benefit Me?

When you meet with your instructor, we’ll work with you to determine your functional movement goals, and address any dysfunction that may be holding you back – this doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you! It is not uncommon to have asymmetries or imbalances in our strength and coordination, just as we often have a dominant hand for everyday tasks.

When Is the FPT Functional Pilates Right for Me?

Pilates can be a great way to reintroduce exercise after recovering from an injury, adapting to pre- and post-natal exercise, or upgrading your movement quality to take your favorite physical activities to the next level! Pilates is safe and effective for all ages and fitness levels, and is an excellent foundational complement to any fitness routine.
